The 3 New Hairstyles Popping Up All Over Grand Rapids

Part of the fun of our job is watching hairstyles come and go.

Whether it’s celebrity influence or a new wave of hair styles sweeping the globe, we get to follow the trends and then try them out on clients here in Grand Rapids.

Here’s an updated list of what we’ve seen start trending across stylists and what we expect to be hot this fall.

Call the salon to chat through which of these trends will work best for you.

The “Curtain” Bang

The latest trending version of bangs is called the curtain bang. We start by parting down the middle, framing your face on each side.

They’re usually on the longer side and have wispy ends. It’s the ultimate laid-back, cool girl vibe.

Also, the minimal effort for upkeep adds a nice little cherry-on-top to this style. Comfort and style should be easy to balance, and the curtain bangs definitely hit the nail on the head.

The Shag is Coming Back In

Appropriately named for the decade that made it popular — the 70s era shag cut allows women to embrace their natural hair texture.

Layers are pretty distinct with the shag. It’s typically cut by pulling everything forward with more dramatic contrast of layering rather than the average long layers.

A badass alternative stylist can give you an edgy look no matter your hair texture or length.

The Bob

Proving that everything old is new again, the bob is making its return statement very well.

Trending right now is the bob cut blunt on the bottom with “inside” layers. There’s something super pretty about that straight-cut length on bottom.

The perfect part about this cut is that with the proper hair styling, it can work for multiple lengths and hair textures.
